Inflamed Acne
Cystic Acne
All acne lesions start out as “micro comedo”. As that lesion grows it has two different pathways that it can go down. One way turns the lesion into a non-inflamed lesion (whitehead or blackhead). The other route will develop into a pustule or cyst, and it will take about 90 days to run its course. Cystic Acne occurs when a person not only has an inherited inclination for acne but also has it for inflammation.
The good news about cystic acne (inflamed acne) is that it clears much easier than non-inflamed acne. It is closer to the surface than non-inflamed acne and therefore more receptive to the products used to get it under control. We use a combination of antibacterial and anti-inflammatory topical products used as directed by your acne specialist to bring existing inflammation levels down and to keep it from returning.
There are also many supplements that we recommend along with your home care that can help to bring inflammation levels down such as:
- zinc monomethionine
- omega-3 fish oil
Icing your skin can be very helpful when you have cystic acne – get a Dixie cup, fill it up with water and freeze it. After cleansing, take a minute to roll the ice over your acne.
It’s really important to get onto the right products to get rid of your cystic acne. Bringing the inflammation down as quickly as possible is key – the longer you have inflammation, the more likely you will scar. Let the acne specialists at Body and Face Solutions get you on the right course of action sooner than later!
How to Get Rid of Cystic Acne
Cystic Acne is the most visible of all the acne types. Seen most in adolescent boys, it is characterized by large red pustules and cysts, it is also very painful for the sufferer. Unfortunately, this is also the type of acne that leave permanent pitted scarring. The good news is that this can be the easiest acne to get under control. Because it is on the surface of the skin, it usually responds very quickly to the right anti-inflammatory products. These products must be used in the correct way, however, in order for the regimen to be effective.
The best ingredients to use for cystic pimples is mandelic acid, salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide (sometimes mixed with sulfur) clay used correctly.
